Time to Get Started...

I have realized that if I would like to retire from the corporate world by the time i am 30 and live a life of blogging and luxury- then I better become more diligent with new posts. I am going to aim for every other day, but bare with me in the beginning. I can't even force myself to the gym in the morning, and I am thinking this challenge is going to fall in the same category.

I have decided I should finally make my new years resolutions...in April. Better late then never, right? Or is it better never late?! Whatever. So, first I am resoluting (is that a word) to take more pictures. I don't want to be an old lady with no memory of my twenties because I never pulled my camera out. With this resolution though, I am also resoluting not to become the paparazzi of my friends either. There is a fine line between capturing memories and being annoying. I don't want to be the latter.

Second, I need to go to the gym in the morning. I feel better about the day and can't push it off as easily as at the end of the day. I think I might be better at this if, when I get up to take Delilah out in the mornings, spikes grew on my side of the bed so I couldn't get back in and then HAD to go to the gym. Gym or be poked to death?! Choices Choices. But then I might just end up on the couch...hmmm.

Third, improve my hearing capabilities. Michael thinks I am deaf. I am pretty positive that I always scored 100% in elementary school when the mobile hearing RV came to school and they made me listen to the bird noises and click the jeopardy clicker. But something has clearly happened. Am I too young for a hearing aid? Do they make them small and in pink?!

So, as of right now- those are the only things I am resolving to change...but I am sure there will be more to come. I think it is better to take them in little chunks as opposed to promising the world in January and hating life by February. Anways, why would I do that to myself- my birthday is in February?!

Oh, and Jack- here is your shout out.

It hasn't been so sweet

I gave up sweets of all kinds for Lent and I have never had a bigger craving for cupcakes in my life. I mean, any normal day when I tell myself that I am not going to eat sweets, I normally cave by Noon and am eating something sweet, whether it is ice cream, a cookie, frosting, whatever. But, when you give stuff up for Lent (which I give up something every year even though I am not Catholic) it takes on a whole different game. I mean, I all of a sudden have this intense conscience and know that I can't really have anything because I said I wouldn't for 40 days. Maybe I should make lent a 365 day process....hmmm.

So, logically since I haven't been able to eat sweets I have had every craving known to man to bake. Normally, I would do this and let Michael eat them and have him take them to work. but, Michael gave up dessert too. So, neither one of us can eat yummy sweet creations. Mentally for the past 33 days (Lent is over next Sunday!!!) I have been making a list of all the things I am going to bake starting on Easter. I hope everyone at Michael's work and mine as well are ready for a sweet treat overload.

I bought supplies at the grocery store yesterday (major sale!!) and I am ready for Sunday. I am going to make cupcakes, the brownie cookies, peanut butter fudge and Lord knows what else - probably all in 2 days. There goes the lbs. I lost during Lent from abstaining from my sweets fetish...bummer. baking is going to become my new hobby so I hope that those of you around me are ready for a sugar overdose :)

The Bart Chronicles , Part 1

This is going to be a new series that I will be doing. It will include great stories, ideas and events from my daily BART rides. For those of you who get to enjoy public transportation, you will understand and empathize. For those of you who do not, get ready for some great moments like you have never experienced before.

Today on my ride home from work, I jumped onto a Pittsburgh/Bay Point train just as the doors were closing. I am crammed in too closely with a bunch of other people headed home and the familiar sound of someone listening to their i-pod too loudly starts to fill the air. The tall man in the suit next to me is the only one in close proximity with headphones in, so obviously, it is his music that he is unknowingly sharing with those around him. The best part was the song choice: Disturbia by Rhianna. Now, I know this isn't the most girly of songs, but to see this man listening to this song for some reason just cracked me up. He was a suited up, straight faced Asian gentleman and it just totally threw me off. Not the song I expected to hear from his headphones.

I am sure people have scoffed at my music choices on BART (Kelly Clarkson's new album was today- and it rocks btw) but I really don't mind. To each his/her own I say. But I definitely got a good laugh from this one. All I can say is that at least he had headphones on...because a few weeks ago there was a girl listening to her music off her phone without headphones...which was annoying as heck...but that is another story...

It happened so fast!!

Sorry that I have not written in a while- I started a new job this week (YAY!!!) and I have been so caught up in adjusting to a new schedule that I had not worked blogging into it yet! But, that is all going to change!

Anyways, I started out this crummy weathered Saturday thinking that I was just going to sweep my apartment. All of a sudden, an hour into it, I had swept, vacuumed, laundry-ed, windex-ed, lysol-ed, dusted and tidied my entire apartment!! I guess spring started two days ago, so I am calling this my spring cleaning session.

Here is what i realized through all of this...I want a maid. Seriously. I mean, I don't mind putting my clothes in the dirty clothes and putting my dishes in the dishwasher (although my actions might say otherwise sometimes) but all the other stuff is annoying. If someone would come to my apartment once a week (at a cheap price) and do the major cleaning- I would be one happy girl! So, this is something to motivate my money making. More money coming in= someone else cleaning my house. Sounds like a good deal to me!

Parallel Parking Skills

This morning I went to the East Bay Center for Creative Reuse to see what it was all about. I had read about it on Yelp.com (my new workplace) and was drooling over it. What it is basically is the Goodwill for crafters and teachers. They are SUPER cheap and have a bunch of random stuff from stamps to fabric and leather to empty toilet paper rolls. Everything is donated, I believe, and I guess the premises is "Somebody's Trash is Another Person's Treasure."

Well, I didn't find any treasure there today. I guess it just wasn't what I was expecting. I wasn't really in the 'sort through the boxes' kind of mood (like you have to be at Forever21. So, maybe that was my problem. I mean, I definitely can tell how people could come out of there with a bag of "junk" and end up making something really pretty.

Anyways...the point of this post is to brag about the parallel parking that I did!! There was a free parking spot on the front curb and I was super excited. Now, I am not a horrible parallel parker, it just normally takes me a few times in drive and reverse to make sure I am in 100%. Well, that was NOT the case today!! I pulled up to and then lined myself up with the car in front of the empty spot. I shifted into reverse, started to turn my wheel and slowly glided into the spot. A turn of the wheel here, a tap of the break there. I was kind of paranoid because there were people standing right next to the spot, but it didn't seem to phase me. In about 25 seconds I had PERFECTLY backed right into the spot. I didn't have to adjust, or anything!!!!

I was so excited - basically beyond myself!! I think it really made me think that today is a great day!! Yay for a perfect parallel parking experience!!

I am sure it won't ever happen again, but oh well!!

TV Shows

As I sit here, Michael is watching the new South Park which he has been eagerly anticipating for Lord knows how long. And, it made me start to think how drastically different the shows that guys and girls watch and "must see" are. For example, I cannot miss Gossip Girl, Grey's Anatomy, Real Housewives of OC and NYC and I am always able to watch (many thanks to DVR!!). I think the the only show that Michael would die if he didn't see is South Park.

The good thing is that we both really like CSI and Law & Order: SVU so we can watch that together without the other one huffing and puffing. But, it just strikes me as funny how girls become more obsessed with show than guys do. And, you never hear guys gossiping over shows like girls do, ie: "OMG, I can't believe that Jason did that to Melissa on the Bachelor. JERK!" You catch my drift?

I think that DVR/TiVo has probably saved a lot of relationships when it comes to TV shows. Girls don't have to watch stupid guy shows and the same goes for guys having to watch girly shows. Not to mention nobody has to suffer through commercials when the suspense leaves you hanging!!

Randomness: The South Park episode Michael is watching was just talking about how couples hang out with couples that like the same thing. Then it flashes to these couples sitting around a table saying "We LOVE Grey's Anatomy. Do you love Grey's Anatomy?" Then the next couple says the same thing and they go around the table all saying the same thing. AWKWARD

Happy Birthday Barbie

Barbie's 50th birthday was on Monday, and I must say....for being 50 she is looking pretty fabulous! So, this got me thinking. There is that saying "I want to be Barbie, the b*tch has everything" and although people say that one couldn't REALLY be Barbie because you would be unproportionate, I still want to be Barbie. And here is why:

First, I think the only person who looks this good at the age of 50 or beyond may be Demi Moore and maybe Madonna if she would lay off some of the crazy stuff she has been doing to her face and put the arm weights down everyone once in a while. I mean, Barbie is hot! And, just think of the number of closets she must have!! Seriously.

Second, this doll has reinvented herself more time that Britney Spears, and even Madonna for that matter! From a teacher, to doctor, to beauty pageant winner, to motorcyclist - Barbie has succeed in ever career she has chosen. Or that is what the packaging makes you think anyway. I doubt that Barbie's current job, whatever that may be, is affected by the recession. Highly unlikely!!

Also, she is one popular broad! She has tons of friends - most attractive like her, which is important!! And Barbie has to be one of the best selling toys/dolls ever. I know I had a least a million when I was younger, because even though her face looked the same in every box (maybe a different color eyeshadow if they were being crazy!!) , she had different accessories/clothes which I HAD to have!!

So, when you think about it, what girl would not want to be Barbie?! People going crazy to dress you for everyday life and fabulous events that you attend? Tons of clothes bought by other people. Great makeup and fabulous hair - and never in short supply of a hair brush! I think Barbie has a pretty sweet deal going on...is she taking applications for a replacement? If so, I am first in line...So, Barbie, meet your replacement :)
